About Heather
The desire to create Iron & Grace has been shaped by my own personal experience navigating through this ever changing new normal within my own body, and more than 25 years working in movement, education, fitness, and rehabilitation. This adventure began long ago on the gym floor with fitness testing and personal training, before completing an undergraduate degree in Education with a specialty in Physical Education. This was followed by a diploma in Outdoor Recreation focusing on working with special populations, and then I earned a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy, and have spent the past 23 years working as an orthopedic physical therapist.
Alongside my clinical work, I am also a certified yoga teacher and comprehensive Pilates instructor. These additional modalities have deepened my understanding of movement not only as a form of rehabilitation, but also as a way to build and foster resilience, mobility, agency, and a deeper connection to the body. And that’s the stuff that lasts a lifetime.
Over the years, I have seen how women are expected to disconnect from their bodies — to ignore and push through pain, fatigue, and suboptimal movement patterns, and to believe that aging means inevitable decline.
I now strive to help foster the opposite, by helping women experience how transformative movement can be when it is supported by program planning that is based on science, and carried out in an environment that is welcoming and compassionate. A space where we can work hard, with intention, and still have a good time!
